After making a triumphant return to the yachting scene with the previous year's introduction of the Carrera Skipper Chronograph in steel, TAG Heuer is proud to present a new iteration of this sea-inspired timepiece. This latest model embraces a luxurious 39mm case in rose gold, boasting water resistance up to 100 meters. Like its predecessor in steel, the rose gold Skipper features the innovative 'glassbox' style that debuted early in 2023, commemorating the Carrera chronograph's 60th anniversary. This design is distinguished by a 'curved flange' dial positioned beneath the watch crystal, enhancing visibility from all angles – an essential feature for timing the critical 15-minute countdown before a regatta
starts.
Echoing the aesthetic of the iconic Skipper Reference 7754 from 1968, the rose gold version marries a sea-blue dial with two vivid sub-dials – one for the 12-hour counter in a bold 'Intrepid Teal' and the other, a 15-minute regatta counter, is split into three colorful five-minute segments. This color palette nods to the original 1968 Skipper chronograph, introduced by Jack Heuer to commemorate the Intrepid yacht's triumph in the America’s Cup the year prior.
For that historic race, the crew of the Intrepid was equipped with handheld yachting timers and Aquastar wristwatches, featuring a unique countdown mechanism. The new Skipper’s tri-color 15-minute countdown sub-dial pays homage to this, with colors representing distinct aspects of the Intrepid – Lagoon Green for the rigging, Intrepid Teal for the deck, and Regatta Orange signaling the final five minutes to prepare.
Maintaining the heritage aesthetic, the 18K 5N rose gold Skipper also displays triangular markers at five-minute intervals along the curved flange, adorned with a lacquered regatta orange second’s hand, and subtly branded with 'Skipper' on the 12-hour sub-dial. A glance at the transparent case back reveals the sophisticated Heuer 02 (Ref. TH20-06) Skipper calibre, a column-wheel chronograph movement with a vertical clutch, boasting an 80-hour power reserve and featuring a newly designed bi-directional rotor shaped like the TAG Heuer shield logo.
This exclusive TAG Heuer Skipper chronograph, complete with a blue fabric strap, is available for $21,500.
